Headline Story
Destiny has two pockets in her backpack. She always has the same total amount of pens and pencils in each pocket. Today she has 5 pencils and 2 pens in one pocket. What might be in the other pocket?
Possible student responses
- She could have 7 pencils or 7 pens.
- She could have 6 pencils and 1 pen (5 pencils and 2 pens, 4 pencils and 3 pens, 3 pencils and 4 pens, 2 pencils and 5 pens, or 1 pencil and 6 pens).
