Introduction
Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to create problems that can be solved using information from the story.
Headline Story
Karen, LouAnn, Dan, and Andy each had the same number of books. Rhonda did not have any books when she joined the group. The children shared all the books so that they each had the same number.
Possible student responses
- If the children had a total of 20 books, the first 4 children each had 5 books, and then 5 children each had 4 books.
- The children could not have 16 books because 5 children could not share 16 books fairly.
