Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to think about what can be concluded from the information in the story.
Headline Story
One fourth of the chairs in Mr. Lee’s classroom are green. All the other chairs are blue.
Possible student responses
- The number of chairs in the room is a multiple of 4.
- The chairs can be arranged in groups of 4, so 1 chair in each group is green and the other 3 chairs are blue.
- If there are 4 chairs in the room, then 1 chair is green and 3 chairs are blue.
- If there are 24 chairs in the room, then 6 chairs are green and 18 chairs are blue.
