Charles gave the cashier 3 quarters to buy a pencil. The cashier gave him 2 coins in change. What can you say about the cost of the pencil?
Possible student responses
- The pencil costs 73¢ or less.
- If Charles received a dime and a nickel in change the pencil cost 60¢.
- If the cashier gave him 2 nickels in change, the pencil cost 65¢.
