Introduction
Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to create problems using information from the story and solve them by making an organized list of possibilities.
Headline Story
Omer tossed one number cube with the numbers 1 through 6. Then she tossed another number cube. She moved her piece the total of the two cubes, or 6 spaces on the game board.
Possible student responses
- Omer could have tossed 1 and then 5 on the number cubes.
- She could have tossed 3 on each number cube.
- Omer could not have tossed a 6.
- There are 5 possible ways she could have tossed the number cubes: 1 then 5, 2 then 4, 3 then 3, 4 then 2, or 5 then 1.
