Shira bought nine notebooks and nine pens. Find more than one way to figure out the total cost, if you know the price of one notebook and the price of one pen.
Possible student responses
- I can add the two prices and multiply by nine.
- I can add the two prices, multiply by ten, and then subtract the two prices.
- I can find the total cost of the notebooks, the total cost of the pens and add the two together.
- I can keep adding each item one by one until I have counted them all.
