Headline Story
Ann, Betty, Carli, and Dana all live on Fifth Street. Ann lives 3 blocks from Betty. Betty lives 4 blocks from Carli. Carli lives 5 blocks from Dana. Ann does not live 12 blocks from Dana. Show their houses on a number line.
Possible student responses
- If you don’t always count the blocks in the same direction you can make it work. Here are some examples where Ann and Dana live 4 blocks apart and 2 blocks apart.
- Are there other solutions? How many? How can we be sure we’ve found them all?
