Introduction
Share the Headline Story with the class. To produce some of the sample responses, pose questions such as, “If two people play, how many cards would each person get?” or “Can four people play this game?”
Headline Story
In this card game, 6 cards are dealt so that every player has the same number of cards and none are left. How many people can play?
Possible student responses
- Two people could play and they would each get 3 cards.
- Three people could play with 2 cards each.
- Six people could play with 1 card each.
- One person could play with 6 cards, but that would be a funny kind of game—maybe you can call it solitaire!
- You cannot play with 4 players or 5 players because you cannot deal out the cards evenly without having some left over.
