Introduction
Display the image pictured in the sidebar, Stars and Circles, to children. Encourage children to tell stories about what they see.
Possible student responses
- The first row has 3 circles, the second row has 6 circles, and the last row has only 2 circles.
- The bottom row has 7 stars.
- The first row is a pattern: star, circle, star, circle, star, circle. If I wanted to continue the first pattern, I would put a star.
- The second row goes star, circle, circle. If I wanted to continue the pattern, I would put a star.
- The bottom row pattern is star, star, star, circle, star, circle. Then it starts to repeat.
