Introduction
Display the Headline Story pictured in the sidebar or copy it onto the board. Encourage children to create stories about the Headline Story that are within a context, as well as stories that relate to jumps on a number line. This will help them to begin to connect these two formats.
Possible student responses
- If Rusty started on 20 and jumped backward 10, Rusty would be on 10.
- I had 12 pretzels and then I ate 10 of them, so I had only 2 left.
