Sometimes it helps children to review what they do know and what they do not know about a problem. In this problem, they do know that Rakesh started at 0 and made two equal jumps on the Number Road. We do not know how long those jumps were or where he landed. What’s possible? What’s impossible?

Possible student responses
- If Rakesh made two jumps of 1, he would land on 2.
- Rakesh could land on 6 by making two jumps of 3.
- There is not any way for Rakesh to land on 7, because two jumps of 3 is less than 7 and two jumps of 4 is more than 7.
- Rakesh cannot land on an odd number.
