Introduction
Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to use logical reasoning to draw conclusions about the number of laps.
Headline Story
The coach of the soccer team explains to the players that at every practice, players must run a total of 60 laps. The more players who practice, the fewer laps each needs to run. All players must run the same number of full laps.
Possible student responses
- The greatest number of laps anyone might have to run is 60, if only 1 person practiced.
- The least is 1, if 60 or more players practiced, since each player must run the same number of full laps.
- If 20 players show up, each must run 3 laps.
