Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to create problems that can be solved using information from the story.

Michele and Fran have the same number of stuffed toys, but Stan has 6 more than each of them.
Possible student responses
- If Michele has 10 stuffed toys, Fran has 10 stuffed toys, and Stan has 16 stuffed toys.
- Stan can give two of his stuffed toys to Michele and two to Fran, and they will all have the same number of toys.
- The total number of stuffed toys they have is a multiple of 3.
- If you know the total number of stuffed toys the three children have, you can tell how many stuffed toys each child has.
