Grade 4

Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to think how they could collect and record data to answer the question, and what they could predict about the results.

How many siblings do the students in this class have?

- The class might collect data using tallies.
- The class might make a histogram.
- Students might also find the average number of siblings, the most common number of siblings, or the different numbers of siblings that students have.
- Or they might make a chart like this:

Number of siblings |
0 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |

Number of students |
3 | 8 | 6 | 5 | 0 | 1 | 2 |
