Introduction
Display the Headline Story pictured in the sidebar and read it aloud to the class. If children need help coming up with some of the ideas suggested in the sample responses, pose questions such as, “Which food did most children choose?” or “How many children could have chosen hamburgers?” or “How many could have chosen tacos?”
Headline Story
Twelve children chose their favorite lunch. Seven children chose pizza. The rest chose hamburgers or tacos.
Possible student responses
- More children chose pizza than any other lunch.
- Three children could have chosen hamburgers and two children could have chosen tacos.
- You can’t tell whether more children chose hamburgers or tacos.
