Introduction
The sample responses to the Headline Stories are deliberately broader than what a class is likely to produce in any session. With each Headline Story, you might lead to one new response by asking one new question explicitly to help children learn to give more varied responses.
Headline Story
Joe asked some friends if they like to play tag or not. Two more children like to play tag than do not like to play tag.
Possible student responses
- If Joe asked 10 friends, then 6 like tag and 4 do not like tag.
- If he asked 12 friends, then 7 like tag and 5 do not like tag.
- He couldn’t ask an odd number of friends because only even numbers work.
