Introduction

Read the Headline Story to your students. Encourage them to make creative statements using information from the story.

Headline Story

Heidi picked 3.1 pounds of strawberries on Saturday. On Sunday, she picked 2.58 pounds. She picked strawberries again on Monday.

Possible student responses

Heidi picked 5.68 pounds of strawberries over the weekend. She picked 0.52 pounds more on Saturday than she did on Sunday.
She picked more than 2 $\frac{1}{2}$ pounds each day.
If she picks 2.5 pounds on Monday, then she’ll have picked more than 8 pounds during the 3 days.
