Pick four different digits, not including 0. Arrange them as dollars and cents to create the largest and smallest possible amounts under $100. What is the largest difference you can find between two amounts?
Possible student responses
- I picked 3, 5, 7, and 9; I wrote $35.79 and $97.53. Their difference is about $60.
- The largest difference anyone found was over $85 ($98.21 – $12.89 = $85.32).
