Introduction
Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to talk about how they know the numbers are ordered from greatest to least.
Headline Story
Pick seven different number that have the digits 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 (each once and only once) and a decimal point. List them in order from greatest to least.
Possible student responses
- The greatest number one can pick is 5,432.1. The least number is 0.12345.
- There are many possible lists of numbers.
- One possible list is: 5.4321; 5.4312; 5.3241; 5.3214; 5.2314; 5.1324; 5.1234.
- Another possible list is: 1, 234.5; 543.21; 435.21; 345.21; 12.345, 5.4321; 0.12345.
