Headline Story
Manuel has $20 to spend at the bookstore. All books at the bookstore are priced at $4.89, $3.98, $2.69, or $1.79. What are some ways that he might spend his money on books?
Possible student responses
- The greatest number of books he can buy is 10. 10 books that each cost $1.79.
- By rounding up to the next dollar, I know that he can buy 4 books that cost $4.89,
- He can buy 5 books that cost $3.89.
- He can buy 6 books that cost $2.69.
- If we rounded any of the prices down, we might not be sure that we have enough money.
