Headline Story
Alicia had a jar containing dollar coins, dimes, and pennies. She pulled out 4 coins. The value of these four coins in pennies is an odd number. What can you say about the value of the coins she took?
Possible student responses
- She could have pulled out 1 penny and 3 other coins, or she could have pulled out 3 pennies and 1 other coin.
- The most money she could have taken out is $3.01, and the least is $0.13.
- She might have pulled out $0.13, $0.31, $1.21, $2.11, or $3.01.
