Headline Story
The students in Mr. Stein’s class will call every family in school to ask for volunteers. There are 3 classes in each grade form kindergarten through fifth grade. There are about 23 students in each class. They assume each family has 2 children in the school. About how many families will each student call?
Possible student responses
- There are about 23 × 3 = 69 children in each grade, and about 6 × 69 = 414 children in the school. There are 414 ÷ 2 = 207 families in the school. 207 ÷ 23 = 9 So, each student in Mr. Stein’s class will call about 9 families.
