Introduction
Sometimes it helps children to review what they do know and what they do not know from a Headline Story. In this problem, they do know the time that Diana started hiking. They do not know the time she finished her hike nor the time she was halfway through. What is possible? What is impossible?
Headline Story
Diana started hiking at 2:30. She was halfway through at __:__, and finished her hike at __:__.
Possible student responses
- If she was halfway through at 3:00, she would be done at 3:30.
- If she was halfway through at 3:30, she would be done at 4:30.
- If she was halfway through at 4:00, she would be done at 5:30.
- You add the same amount of time again to get the time Diana finished her hike.
