Introduction
After writing the story on the board, you might suggest that students make a few different lists of five fractions to help them formulate their explanations. Encourage them to find multiple explanations.
Headline Story
Explain how to find five fractions greater than that all have different denominators.
Possible student responses
- I could make a list of five fractions that all have the same numerators as denominators and then change each numerator to be one more than the denominator.
- is equal to one whole, so the fractions in my list have to have numerators that are larger than the denominators.
