Headline Story
At Eli’s school, the two kindergarten classrooms are bigger than the two 1st grade classrooms, which are bigger than the two 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms. The art room is bigger than each kindergarten room. The cafeteria is a little bigger than the art room. The gym is the biggest room. The total area is 1,000 sq. m.
Possible student responses
- The school could be 20-by-50 m or 25-by-40 m.
- The gym could have an area of 100 sq. m. If it did, the cafeteria might be 80 sq. m, the art room 75 sq. m, the 2nd-5th grade classrooms 60 sq m each, the 1st grade classrooms 65 sq. m, and the kindergarten rooms 67 sq. m, a total of 999 sq. m. These possibilities leave no room for hallways, bathrooms, offices, or other rooms.
