Introduction

Read the Headline Story to the class. Sometimes it helps children to review what they do know and what they do not know from the story. In this problem, they do know that there are 4 balls in a box and that some of them are red and the rest are green. They do not know how many there are of each color. What’s possible? What’s impossible? Encourage children to think of creative ways to complete the story. All possible answers could be arranged in a chart; there are 5 possibilities.
