Headline Story
In Karl’s town, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th streets run north-south, and 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th avenues run east-west. What can you say about the products of the street and avenue numbers at the intersections in town?
Possible student responses
- There are 16 intersections in the town.
- The street-avenue products must include all the products that can occur when 1, 2, 3, and 4 are multiplied by 1, 2, 3, and 4.
- There are nine such product: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, and 16.
