Headline Story
The temperature in Laura’s town was below 0oC today and ten degrees colder than Capital City, where her aunt lives. Capital City’s temperature was above 0oC. What can you say about the temperature in Laura’s town?
Possible student responses
- The temperature in Laura’s town has to be less than 0oC. That means it’s a negative number. But it can’t be lower than –10C, because that would mean that the temperature in her aunt’s town wasn’t above 0oC after all.
- If the temperature where her aunt lives is 5oC, the temperature where Laura lives is –5oC.
