Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to think of creative ways to answer the question.
Headline Story
Make a list of 12 consecutive multiples of 2 starting with 0 (0, 2, 4, and so on) and a similar list of multiples of 8. What do these two lists have in common?
Possible student responses
- Both lists have only even numbers.
- All the multiples of 8 are also multiples of 2 because they are even.
- The ones digits in the multiples of 8 follow the pattern 0, 8, 6, 4, 2.
