Headline Story
Caroline had a collection of _____ stuffed animals, but decided to give a fourth of her collection to her younger sister. Then she decided to give half of the remaining animals to her baby brother.
Possible student responses
- Caroline’s collection must be a multiple of 4 or she wouldn’t be able to give a fourth to her sister.
- Not all multiples of 4 will allow her to divide the remaining animals in half for her brother. For example, 4 does not work but 8 does; 12 doesn’t work, while 16 does; and so on.
- Multiples of 8 seem to work.
