Grade 3

Read the Headline Story to the students. Encourage them to make a table to list possible numbers.

Claire used 3 base-ten blocks to represent a number. What number might she have made?

- The smallest number she could have made is 3 (with 3 units).
- The largest number she could have made is 3,000 with 3 large cubes.
- She could have made 20 different numbers.
- The table shows some (but not all) possibilities:

Large cubes | Flats | Rods | Units | Number |

3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 3,000 |

2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 2,100 |

2 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2,010 |

2 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 2,001 |
