Headline Story
A number has two digits, it is even, and its tens digit is 3. What might the number be?
Possible student responses
It could be 30, 32, 34, 26, or 38. Some possible clues (and the numbers they determine) include “It is a multiple of 5.” (30) “It is more than 37.” (38) “It is a square number.” (36) “You can make it by doubling, starting at 1.” (32: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32) “The sum of the digits is 7.” (34)
