										Read the Headline Story to children, and have them use the information in the story to create interesting problems. After finishing the story, have children write a number sentence that fits.

					Dan has 5 marbles. Jill has 2 marbles.
					 
													
					Possible student responses
					
- Together they have 7 marbles. 5 + 2 = 7
 
- Dan has 3 more marbles than Jill. 5 – 2 = 3
 
- If Jill has 3 more marbles, then she would have 5. This is the same number of marbles as Dan. 2 + 3 = 5.
