Introduction
The goal of Headline Stories is for children to learn to translate situations and information into problems that can be answered mathematically. What information do we have? What information is missing? Is there extra information we don’t need? Encourage children to invent good questions or problems to pose.

Nicky decided to organize his rock collection. He has 6 shiny rocks, 4 red rocks, and 8 very smooth rocks.

- Nicky has 18 rocks in all.
- Nicky can number the rocks using ordinals to arrange his rock collection.
