Introduction
The goal of Headline Stories is for children to learn to translate situations and information into problems that can be answered mathematically. What information are they given? What information is missing? Encourage kids to think mathematically to complete the problem.
Headline Story
Rosa played for 2 hours. She played soccer for _____ minutes and tag for _____ minutes. She played only those two games.
Possible student responses
- If she played soccer for 60 minutes, then she had time to play tag for 60 minutes.
- If she played soccer for 15 minutes, then she could have played tag for 105 minutes.
