Headline Story
Max has twice as many trading cards as Jo. How many cards would Max have to give Jo so they could both have the same number of cards?
Possible student responses
If Jo has 10 cards, then Max would have 20. If Max then gives Jo 5 cards, they would each have 15.
If Max has 30 cards, then Jo has 15. If so, they cannot have the same number of cards unless they tear one in half or put it aside or something, because they have a total of 45 cards, and 45 cannot be shared fairly between two people.
