Introduction
Read the Headline Story to children, and have them use the information in the story to create interesting problems. After finishing the story, have children write a number sentence that fits.
Headline Story
Markers cost 10¢ each. Pens cost 5¢ each.
Possible student responses
- You can buy two pens for the same amount as one marker.
- One pen and one marker cost 15¢.
- For the same amount of money you can buy twice as many pens as markers.
- You can buy 10 markers for $1.00.
- Two markers and one pen cost 25¢.
