Read the Headline Story to children, and have them use the information in the story to solve the problem.
Headline Story
Maggie has 3 bowls of goldfish, and each bowl has the same number of fish. Could she move the fish to 2 tanks with the same number in each tank?
Possible student responses
- Yes. If she has 6 fish, 2 in each bowl, then she could put 3 fish each into the 2 tanks.
- No. If she has 9 fish, 3 in each bowl, then the closest she could get to the same would be 4 in one tank and 5 in the other.
