Introduction
Use the Headline Story to generate responses on a variety of levels. Some children might simply name a possible combination of coins. Others might be able to complete if/then comparisons, such as, “If Ronald has only two coins, then the coins are a quarter and a dime.” Encourage any valid response.
Headline Story
Ronald has 35¢.
Possible student responses
- Ronald might have 35 pennies.
- Thirty-five is the most number of coins he could have to make 35¢.
- He might have 3 dimes and 5 pennies, which is 8 coins.
- Ronald could have 7 nickels.
