Introduction
Headline Stories are deliberately broad in order to allow children to respond at varying levels. You may want to ask questions such as, “How much money do you think Kevin has?”, “What if he wants to buy more than one marble?” or “If he has a dime, can he buy a marble?”
Headline Story
Kevin has some money and he wants to buy some marbles. Marbles cost 8¢.
Possible student responses
- If Kevin has 8¢, then he can only buy 1 marble.
- If Kevin has 20¢, he can only buy 2 marbles.
- If Kevin has more than 25¢, he can buy at least 3 marbles.
- To figure out how many marbles he can buy, Kevin should count his money and then compare the amount of money he has to the price of different numbers of marbles.
