Grade K

This Headline Story encourages children to show what they know about calendars. For example, some children know that a month is about 30 days. Others simply know that a week is a shorter time than a month. You might want to ask estimation questions to prompt discussion, such as “Is 50 less than the number of days in a month?” or “If there are 3 days of school left, is that closer to a week or a month?”

There is less than a month until the year will be over.

- There are at most 30 days left in the school year.
- There could only be 3 days left in the school year.
- There cannot be 35 days left.
- There can be 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks left, but there cannot be 5 or more weeks left.
- If it is May now, school will be over in May or June.
