Introduction
This Headline Story in intended to help children relate calendar dates to real-world dates of particular interest. For example, many children have asked, “How many days is it to my birthday?” Encourage children to think about the date and season of their own birthdays and compare them to July 1.

- If today is June 12, July 1 is less than a month away.
- July 1 is in the summer.
- Because there are 30 days in June, there are 18 days left in June and then the next day will be July 1.
