Introduction
Display the Headline Story pictured in the sidebar to the class. Have children think of several ways to complete the following number sentence.

Possible student responses
- 10 + 19 = 20 + 9
- 10 + 20 = 20 + 10
- Since 20 is 10 more than 10, the number I add to 10 must be 10 more than the number I add to 20.
- I bought 10 new green pencils and put them with 13 yellow pencils, so now I have 23 pencils.
