Introduction

Share the Headline Story with the class. Encourage children to find different ways to extend the story. Children might compare C to A, or say which has the most or the fewest, or give examples that fit. Have children create similar stories that place things in order. They can use bigger/smaller, earlier/later, older/younger, hotter/colder, and so on.

Headline Story

Box A has more marbles than box B. Box C has fewer marbles than box B.

Possible student responses

Box C has fewer marbles than box A.
Box A has more marbles than box C.
A similar story might be, “Jared’s dog is bigger than Sydney’s. Sydney’s dog is bigger than Lyle’s. So, Jared’s dog is bigger than Lyle’s dog.”
