Introduction
Share the Headline Story with the class. To help get started, pose questions such as, “If she bought three pairs, how many socks would that be?” or “Could there be an odd number of socks?” You might make a table that shows how many socks and how many pairs.
Headline Story
Jimmy’s mom bought him several identical pairs of socks.
Possible student responses
- If she bought 3 pairs, that is 6 socks.
- Jimmy’s mom bought an even number of socks.
- If he loses a sock from one pair and a sock from another pair, he can use the other two socks to make a pair.
