Introduction
Sometimes it helps children to review what they do know and what they do not know from a Headline Story. In this problem, they do know that two of Max’s cutouts are blue and four are triangles. They do not know how many cutouts Max has in all, or if he has other colors or figures.
Headline Story
Max has some cutouts of shapes. Two of them are blue. Four of them are triangles.
Possible student responses
- We don’t know how many shapes he has, but he does have at least 4.
- He might have a lot of shapes we don’t know about, such as he could have 100 red circles.
- He might have 2, 1, or 0 blue triangles.
