Introduction
Sometimes it helps children to review what they do know and what they do not know from a Headline Story. In this problem, they do know there are 10 steps in Roberto’s dance, and that the last step is to spin around. They do not know how many times to clap or stomp. You might wish to have children act out the steps in their responses.
Headline Story
Roberto learned a new dance with 10 steps. He explained the dance by saying that first you clap your hands_____ times, next you stomp your right foot _____ times, and last you spin around one time.
Possible student responses
- If you clap your hands two times, then you must stomp your foot seven times before spinning so that there are 10 steps.
- Nine of the moves are either claps or stomps.
- You cannot clap the same number of times you stomp.
