Headline Story
Lavar has a restaurant with 9 seats at the counter and 2 small tables. He uses 3 eggs to make an omelet. How many dozen eggs might he need in a morning to serve omelets to his customers?
Possible student responses
- If he cooked 4 omelets, he would need 1 dozen eggs.
- If he beat 5 dozen eggs then he could make 20 omelets.
- If he made 2 omelets, then he would use half a dozen eggs.
- If he had 17 customers in his restaurant at once and they all order an omelet, he would need 51 eggs, which is 4 dozen 3 eggs, or 4 and a quarter dozen.
