Introduction
Display the Headline Story pictured in the sidebar, Houses on the Block, so that all children can see the image. Ask questions such as, “How many houses do you see?”, “What colors are they?” or “Are the numbers in a pattern?”
Possible student responses
- There are six houses on the block.
- Even-numbered houses are on one side of the street and odd-numbered houses are on the other.
- There are three even- and three odd-numbered houses.
- There are two red houses. There are four houses that are not red.
