Introduction
The goal of Headline Story is for children to learn to translate situations and information into the problems or statements that are mathematical in nature. What information do we have? What information is missing? Encourage children to invent statements or questions about the story below.
Headline Story
The move that Selby wants to watch is two hours long.
Possible student responses
- If he starts watching the movie at 4 P.M., he will finish the movie at 6 P.M.
- If he needs to be in bed by 8 P.M., he needs to start the movie by 6 P.M. at the latest.
- If Selby watches half of the movie one day and half of the movie on another day, he will watch one hour of the movie each day.
